Portrait of My Dog Curly

This is not so much a blog post since it's going to be rather short, however just wanted to talk a little about it. This is of my precious dog Curly who lost his battle with heartworms during treatment right after Christmas 2020. My heart is still broken and the loss is still quite raw.
This was a very difficult portrait to work on obviously because all I could think of was how much I miss him during the felting process. Constantly looking at his reference photos kept the pain of losing him in the forefront of my mind and heart. On the other side, it helped me to start the healing process. He was with me for such a short time, just shy of 6 months. I rescued him after he had dumped here and was found starving, matted, and thirsty in the hot summer sun. I took him in and showered him with love to point of being very spoilt (and I was happy to do it). He was my "velcro dog", going with me everywhere I went.
I kept a bit of his fur my husband clipped for me before he took Curly for burial. I used it in the actual portrait and can be seen right above his eyes mixed in amongst the wool. It will forever be cherished by me and hangs in my crafting room right behind the recliner we happily snuggled on together. He's forever in my heart and I love walking into the room and seeing his precious face looking at me while I work. Hold your pets extra snug tonight and shower them with kisses.

Until next time...
