Alpacas, spinning, & collaboration!

Yes it's been a very long time. I'm horrible at keeping up with my blog. In the time that has passed, I've bought a house with a goat pasture (including the goats) and became an instant goat farmer. I've also started spinning my own yarn which has been a dream of mine since I was a teen! I now own 2 spinning wheels, with my favorite being my Ashford Elizabeth I affectionately call Lizzie. Well with spinning comes having to have a source of fibers that I am always on the look for, especially through Indie dyers on Etsy and other platform markets.

Well since moving to my new little hometown, I've discovered a petting farm not too terribly far away and they have alpacas and a llama. You can see where this is going. I got in contact of Cahaba Critters and was invited to their farm for shearing day, an opportunity I couldn't resist. It was wonderful seeing and meeting the resident critters, especially the alpacas which are my dream animal. Chewy, one of the males, instantly began nuzzling and booping my face. Inst-friend! I had a wonderful time there with the owners and the animals. Luckily for me, this meeting has led to a wonderful collaboration between us. I'm using their shorn fleeces to process in my studio back home (my barn) and in return am spinning up the fibers and knitting, crocheting, and/or felting them items to sell at their shop or at events. I couldn't be happier. I have loads to process and am enjoying every minute!

I'll try to photograph the process and share it here, so keep checking back. In the meantime, go by Cahaba Critters Facebook page and show them some love! Better yet, make an appointment to go see them and their wonderful farm!
